There are lots of times in life when makeup just won’t do the trick. Whether you’re headed out for a day at the beach or you intend to look great on your next camping trip, there is a way to look great while you don’t have access to makeup – eyelash tinting. You’ll get the dark eyes you want without makeup or mascara, and it’s easier than you think.

What is Eyelash Tinting?
In the same way you might color your hair, you can dye your lashes for a dark, thick look. A salon attendant will advise you on the best color based on your skin type and hair color, but you can go for black, blue, brown, grey, or whatever might look great with your complexion.
If you’re sensitive to eye makeup or you’re fairly active, this is a great solution. It’s also good if you wear contacts, as you won’t have to fight through a makeup session. Vegetable based dyes are typically the tints used, and you’ll achieve a very natural effect. Don’t, however, expect to get a lighter color, as that’s just not typically possible.

Safety Concerns
While the process itself is not inherently dangerous, it is essential to make sure it is done correctly. There are home kits on the market, but they’re fairly unsafe. Moreover, they can be messy, and they won’t last as long as the tint you get in the salon. Before the procedure is actually done, you’ll probably have a consultation appointment, and at least two days prior, you’ll need to have a patch test to make certain you’re not sensitive to the dye being used. If you have very sensitive skin or sensitive eyes, this probably isn’t the best procedure for you.

Appointment Day
During your consultation, you’ll discuss the best possible color. Once you arrive, your consultant will have you put some cotton under your eyes, then she or he will put a small amount of dye onto the lashes themselves. It must sit for approximately ten minutes, then it will be washed away with water. Results often last four to six weeks. It is a painless procedure, and it can be fit into very busy schedules, as you should only be in the salon about fifteen minutes.

In many cases you can move forward to tint your eyebrows the same color as your lashes for an improved overall look. If you’re sick of mascara, or you just don’t have time for a daily makeup regimen, this might be the right solution for you.
